If you already use a familiar LLM every day for work and personal planning, it probably feels easier to ask it your equity questions directly instead of using a different tool. Our team works with AI assistants regularly, so we get the appeal.
But general LLMs are missing key equity-specific information. Instead, you can use your Secfi data directly inside ChatGPT by connecting your account through Secfi’s MCP.
“We owe it to our clients to make Secfi available in the tool of their choice” — Robin Stordeur, Head of Product & Design at Secfi.
For a detailed overview, check out Why we built the Secfi MCP.
Secfi's MCP is a connector that allows supported AI assistants to request information and calculations directly from Secfi while you chat. It uses the existing financial context in your prompt, so you don't need to manually upload files or paste chats into the conversation.
Here's how to get started:
1) Search for "Secfi" in ChatGPT's connectors and click to add it. You can also just ask your LLM where to go if you want to connect to Secfi’s MCP.
2) A browser window will open that prompts you to log in with your Secfi credentials and authorize access. Don't worry, you don't have to do it every time. Each authentication session stays active for 30 days.
3) Ask your AI assistant equity questions using the same natural language you would in any conversation.
That's all there is to it on your end!
If you're curious how it works on the back end, it goes like this:
You ask your equity question in ChatGPT that has Secfi's MCP connected
ChatGPT contacts Secfi to request the relevant data or calculation.
Secfi returns the structured result from its calculation engines.
Your AI assistant incorporates that result into its response.
Once connected, Secfi's MCP gives ChatGPT access to structured details stored in your profile. This includes grant types, vesting schedules, strike prices, fair market values, and calculated spreads.
It also connects to your saved tax details, including filing status, income, dependents, and state tax rates. This can help the AI assistant estimate tax impact more accurately than guessing your tax bracket.
In addition to your personal inputs, the MCP connects to live market signals and valuation data that Secfi pulls from sources like PitchBook and Caplight. This helps you evaluate potential outcomes using current private market benchmarks rather than relying solely on an outdated 409A valuation.
If you’re considering non-recourse financing, you can also submit a query to check your eligibility through your chat.
Note that if you don't grant the MCP access to your data, or aren't logged in, the AI assistant can only answer general questions from Secfi's public knowledge base.
And if you don't have equity data saved in Secfi yet, log in to your Secfi account. You can then add your information by linking your Carta account, uploading equity documents, or entering your grant details manually.
When your account is linked, you can ask questions that combine your personal equity data with your overall financial situation. You can include context about your risk tolerance, debt obligations, or family timeline directly in your prompt.
| Question type | Example prompt |
|---|---|
Portfolio summary | I'm hoping to buy a house next year and need $150k for a down payment. Summarize my vested equity value and how much cash I could clear after taxes. |
Exercise cost | My kid starts private school this fall, so cash flow will be tight. What is the out-of-pocket cash needed to exercise my ISO grant right now? I can't afford to take on any personal debt. |
AMT planning | I had a high-income year due to a bonus. How many ISO shares can I exercise before triggering the alternative minimum tax? |
Exit scenarios | Model my net proceeds after taxes if my company exits at $500 million versus $1 billion, so I know if I can afford to pay off my mortgage early. |
You can also ask about specific grant types, such as comparing incentive stock options and non-qualified stock options. If you want to explore funding options without risking personal assets, you can submit an inquiry for non-recourse option financing directly through the chat.
Copying numbers into an AI prompt can work for basic questions, but it introduces room for missing or stale details. General AI tools are prediction engines. They can create confident and plausible answers, but they weren’t designed for precise tax math.
Independent benchmarks like TaxCalcBench show that standard AI models often struggle with exact tax calculations, producing inconsistent results when asked the same question multiple times.
Connecting through Secfi's MCP solves this problem by routing the math to Secfi's dedicated tax calculation engines. The AI handles the conversation, while Secfi handles the calculations.
The MCP integration allows the AI to run real calculations for stock option taxes and exercise timing while keeping your data synchronized.
Secfi offers two ways to interact with our calculator tools via AI. Maeve is Secfi's native AI equity assistant, built directly inside the Secfi platform. The MCP integration makes those same underlying data connections and tools available inside external assistants like ChatGPT.
You may prefer Maeve when you want a dedicated, Secfi-native environment for your equity planner workflows. You may prefer the MCP integration when you are already working inside ChatGPT and want to bring your personal equity context into an existing conversation.

Connecting your account to Secfi’s MCP can make ChatGPT more useful for equity planning, but AI outputs are still educational and illustrative. Before acting, verify your grant details against official company or equity platform records, such as Carta or Shareworks.
Tax rules around stock options are complex and depend on your individual situation. Review tax-sensitive decisions with a tax advisor, and review major exercise, sale, financing, or investment decisions with the appropriate professional.
Secfi's MCP enables you to use your Secfi data directly inside ChatGPT. By connecting your account, you can model personal scenarios and calculate exercise costs without manually exporting data or running static spreadsheets.
Whether you choose Maeve inside the Secfi platform or connect through ChatGPT via the MCP, you gain access to dedicated calculation engines that help you evaluate your stock options.
